Dave Blench is a Class 1 Night Shift Driver who has worked for Pall-Ex Group shareholder member, Moody Logistics and Storage, for over 25 years. As a night driver, Dave makes the all-important ‘night trunk run’ between the Moody Logistics depot and the Pall-Ex Central Hub.
When did you begin your career in the transport industry, and what job roles have you worked in previously?
After eight years in the 2nd Battalion the Light Infantry, I decided I wanted a change and in 1990, I got my Class 1 driving license. Originally delivering army goods, troops and ammunition sugar beet, I eventually moved on to general haulage for Moody Logistics over 25 years ago.
What may surprise people about your role?
People are always surprised by the hours that I work and the distance I travel. I’ve been doing the same 374-mile round trip between Northumberland and the Pall-Ex Central Hub in Leicestershire every night for over 25 years, clocking up around 90,000 miles every year!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The best thing about working at night is how peaceful it is on the roads, I enjoy working alone and being outside. I never get bored of doing the drive between Moody Logistics and the Pall-Ex Hub.
Why do you think the transport industry is so important?
The economy would not function without the transport industry, it is incredibly undervalued and often forgotten about.
