On Sunday 21st December, Pall-Ex Group’s market-leading IT system celebrates its fifth anniversary.

When Nexus launched back in 2020, Pall-Ex Group had recently undergone a complete transformation as a result of the member and management buyout. The next main focus for the business was to create a powerful IT system that gave users complete control of their freight.

Designed to cater for the needs of UK members, Group customers, and European partners alike, Nexus aimed to streamline communication and traceability across the entire network.

Dave Dunhill, Chief Technology Officer of Pall-Ex Group, has spearheaded the development of Nexus since the beginning, supported by his in-house IT team. Explaining why Nexus was needed, Dave comments: “Previous legacy systems were becoming increasingly difficult to modify, maintain and manage. After a significant strategic review, it was proposed that a new core operational system should be developed to act as the foundation of which Pall-Ex could build upon.”

The investment into growing Nexus has propelled Pall-Ex Group’s IT infrastructure ahead of the market, with additional add-ons such as NexusETA and NexusWMS giving members and customers an unrivalled experience in the pallet sector.

Dave comments: “The key challenge we set out to solve when developing Nexus was to build one system that every member and customer could access. The system had to be multilingual and multicurrency to ensure that it could be used by our international partners.”

Looking back at some of the key milestones during the development of Nexus, Dave comments that the projects that have had the most significant positive effect on the business are NexusETA, NexusGO, and NexusScan (depot), all of which have improved freight visibility across the network.

As Nexus enters its next chapter, Pall-Ex Group remains committed to innovation and forward-thinking, ensuring our members and customers benefit from the most powerful IT system in the industry.
