A.D.D Express, a shareholder member of the Pall-Ex Group network, has been working within the community to drive apprenticeships and upskill those looking towards a career in logistics.
Since the beginning of 2023, A.D.D Express has been partnered with Rochdale Training Centre to provide apprenticeships within the logistics sector for young people keen to gain on-the-job experience and practical skills whilst continuing their education. Throughout the year so far, A.D.D Express has welcomed eight students into the business on six to eight week courses to provide learning and development opportunities.
One apprentice who has become a success story within the business is Tyler Duffy, an 18 year old who began at the company in June 2023 and has since become an integral member of the transport team.
Now working as a Transport Administrator, Tyler reflects on the progression so far in his career: “Whilst working at A.D.D Express, I have learnt how to work as part of a team and how to problem solve in difficult situations. The most important thing I have learnt is communication, as this is key, not just for work but in everyday life. I have also just passed my FLT test, so I’m able to assist with loading and unloading trunks if and when required.”
“With my managers having 60+ years of experience between them, I am always learning and feel confident every day that we can overcome any challenges and ensure the job is done according to A.D.D Express standards.”
“The part I enjoy most about working at A.D.D Express is the people I work with. My colleagues will go out of their way to teach me new skills and help with any work problems. It is more than just a workplace to me.”
“The benefits of being an apprentice is that you can earn whilst you learn and also get taught from the ground up and learn skills that are relevant to your industry. An apprenticeship is a great way to kick-start your career.”
In April 2024, A.D.D Express became an Apprentice Ambassador in Rochdale, with plans to continue offering training and support to members of the community in the future. To other young people considering a career in Logistics, Tyler comments: “The best advice I could give to anyone starting out is don’t be shy to ask questions. There is so much to learn in logistics and it can be quite difficult to start but by asking a lot of questions, I’ve been able to learn lots of small details that have proved important to my day to day work.”
Norman Burgess, Commercial Director at A.D.D Express, speaks about the progress Tyler has made so far: “Tylers development since beginning with A.D.D Express has been fantastic to watch and we are looking forward to seeing him progress even further in his role. He has a bright future ahead of him and shows a real drive to succeed by grasping every opportunity with both hands. We are very proud to be Apprentice Ambassadors and are hoping to welcome many more apprentices into the business to encourage any young people unsure of what to pursue to consider looking at the logistics industry.”
