SUSTAINABLE LOGISTICS
SOLUTIONS

At Pall-Ex, we’re advancing sustainable logistics through smarter operations, lower emissions, and a clear pathway to net zero by 2040.

Striving for a greener future

At Pall-Ex Group, we’re committed to supporting a greener future in logistics. Starting out as a pallet network in 1996, our business model has always focused on maximising vehicle fill to bring down costs and lower CO2 emissions per pallet. But now, a new age of technology gives us scope to do even more. We’re aiming to achieve net zero by 2040, which means taking decisive actions towards lowering our carbon emissions.

Our aims and objectives:

Forklift truck lifting a pallet of freight in a warehouse

Exceed the environmental legislation and regulation relating to our activities

Promote sustainability to all stakeholders; staff, suppliers and network members

Demonstrate measurable reductions in carbon emissions across the business estate

Lead the express freight and logistics market in sustainability

Actively promote sustainable operations with staff, partners and suppliers

Integrate environmental and sustainability principles into our operational procedures and decision-making processes

Exchange best practice with industry experts, local authorities, higher education institutions, and other stakeholders

Encourage and facilitate feedback

Communicate and promote environmental and sustainability procedures, regulations and initiatives at staff inductions and training sessions

Monitor energy consumption against past performance

Environmental and Sustainability Management

We hold the ISO 14001:2015 certification for environmental management systems, demonstrating that we have an effective system in place for environmental and sustainability management.

By regularly reviewing and reevaluating our sustainability targets, we will be able to monitor the efficacy of our net zero plan. We aim to:

Transport, Travel and Operational Fleet

To lower our CO2 output, we are phasing in electric vehicles for final-mile deliveries and looking into alternative fuels such as hydrogen for our FLT fleet, with electric trucks and electric forklifts in place at half of our owned operations already.

We’ve already integrated route optimisation features into Nexus, our core operating system, to minimise mileage and further cut emissions across our network.

Estate and Facilities

Where resources allow, we’re committed to achieving the relevant BREEAM standard at all of our sites, with 40% of these on track to achieve a BREEAM accreditation by 2027. Adhering to these BREEAM standards puts us on the right track to offer greener logistics services to our customers.

This includes our new central hub development in Leicestershire and a new site for Pall-Ex Logistics Devon and Cornwall. Both have been designed to facilitate the highest levels of energy efficiency and will be built to exceptional ESG standards.

THE CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

Carbon Reporting

Most recently, we’ve implemented NexusCO2, a carbon reporting tool built into our pallet management platform that calculates the carbon footprint of every pallet we deliver. This gives our members and customers complete visibility of their environmental impact when sending freight through the Pall-Ex network.

We’re committed to becoming leaders in sustainable express freight delivery. Our Sustainability Policy outlines how we will achieve that goal and will be regularly updated in line with our ambitions and achievements. View the full policy here.
