At Pall-Ex Logistics (Essex), we are proud to have such a committed team working together to lead the way to success at our depot. Transport Manager, Dwaine Bowman, is responsible for ensuring that the depot operates at the highest standard to provide efficient services to customers. We spoke to Dwaine to find out more about his role and responsibilities.
What is your role at Pall-Ex Logistics and what are your key responsibilities?
My role at Pall-Ex Logistics was originally as an HGV Class 1 Driver, but I am currently covering the Transport Manager role, I am also part of the Op-Ex (Operational Excellence) team.
My key responsibilities are ensuring all areas of transport are kept up-to-date and legal with vehicle inspections, roadworthiness and driver compliance. I currently do the planning for the driver's routes most days and assist with anything that needs doing in the warehouse, including load outs in the mornings and any other tasks I can help with.
How did you get into the logistics industry?
I have always worked in the logistics industry, where I began loading containers in 2011 right up until 2018. I then went on to become a Class Two recovery driver, before joining Pall-Ex Logistics (Essex) and progressing into a Transport Manager/Driver role.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced since joining the team?
The most difficult challenge I have had to face in my career so far is passing my Transport Manager CPC course and learning how to successfully manage a team of drivers.
What sets Pall-Ex Logistics apart from other logistics companies?
I don’t know a great deal about the other pallet networks, but Pall-Ex Group dominates the industry with the size and scale of services that we provide and the quality of work we achieve together.
What does a great day at work look like for you?
I consider a great day at work to be when all of our deliveries are made successfully, nothing gets left at the hub, and everyone is happy.
What has been your most memorable moment at Pall-Ex Logistics so far?
When our previous General Manager sadly passed away, I realised how much of a tight-knit team we all are, as we rallied around like a small family to help each other and make sure the depot ran as if he was still here.
What is the most unusual freight you have seen transported?
The gigantic tractor wheels we collect, are quite unusual!
