To lead and develop a strong team of qualified and part-qualified accountants to deliver financial accounts to a statutory level. To create a robust financial control environment, ensuring a high standard of compliance with accounting and legal standards for the entire Pall-Ex Group of companies.

The ideal candidate will implement strong governance, have a hands-on approach and will be required to align and standardise internal accounting policies and procedures to ensure the objectives for Group Finance team are met.

This Financial Controller will become a pivotal member of the Pall-Ex Group senior Finance team and will help shape and deliver the strategy for the department moving forward.

Location: Pall-Ex Group Head Office, Victoria Road, Ellistown, Leicestershire LE671FH
Reports to: UK Finance Director (UK FD)

Requirements:

Essential

  • A qualified accountant, with a recognised accounting body
  • A proven track record of preparing accounts to a statutory level
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in maintaining and managing a group of companies, financial statements, balance sheet controls, effective cash management and month-end and year-end duties supported by exceptional accounting knowledge
  • Excellent communication, management, and administrative skills
  • Strong Excel and report writing skills

Desirable

  • A background in Auditing
  • Previous experience with Navision or an equivalent financial software
  • Proven experience in implementing change and standardisation
  • Experience in managing a team within a fast-paced organisation

Principal Accountabilities:

  • To perform monthly reviews to ensure the balance sheets, for the Pall-Ex Group of companies, are fully understood, is supported by auditable documents with recommendations and actions issued and put in place to remedy emerging issues. These are to be reviewed with the finance team and UK Finance Director to an agreed timetable
  • Perform monthly, quarterly and annual reporting routines for internal and legislative requirements
  • Create and maintain a robust inventory of finance registers, operating leases, contracts, and fixed assets. Ensuring compliance is maintained on disposals, additions and these are accurately reflected within the balance sheet
  • Create and maintain effective inter-company controls through a clearly documented, and agreed procedure. Ensure compliance adheres too and corrective action in place to remedy any issues
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes are performed within a timely manner which includes but are not limited to; GL ledger control, payment authorisation, journal production, payroll submissions, retained earnings and corporation tax calculations
  • Create, develop, and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls. Research and maintain a good understanding of the latest accounting standards to ensure compliance is adhered to with corrective action plans agreed and implemented to remedy
  • Standardise the financial accounting processes across the entire Pall-Ex Group of companies with an agreed and aligned plan with the UK Finance Director
  • Assisting in budget planning and forecasting processes
  • Provide strong input into the development of financial systems to enhance reporting and improve processes to make the best use of systems in place
  • Provide ad-hoc support for the UK Finance Director, Group CFO and board of Directors as and when required

Staff Management

  • Manage, motivate, mentor, and effectively lead a team of three to ensure they achieve strict deadlines and deliver their set objectives. This covers a Financial accountant, Junior Financial accountant, and Payroll administrator
  • Undertake annual staff appraisals, produce aligned objectives, and develop appropriate training plans to maintain a strong and effective team

Treasury

  • Overseeing and providing a hands-on approach to ensure the cash flow is effectively managed and reviewed weekly with the UK Finance Director
  • Management and review of invoice discounting options; liaising with an external provider

Year-End

  • Manage, lead and support the audit process to ensure a timetable is prepared well in advance and is agreed with the UK FD and Group CFO. This will then need to be effectively communicated to the Finance team
  • Production and delivery of robust and accurate financial statements to a statutory level which are supported by accurate balance sheets and supporting evidence. Whilst ensuring these are filed with Companies House to the required deadlines
  • Ensure auditor’s requirements for supporting documentation are met in a timely manner

Reporting

  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting submission which meets the requirements for internal and external bodies such as HMRC, VAT returns, provide supporting documentation for Tax computations, National Statistics and Companies House
  • Produce monthly management accounts including; cash flow and balance sheets supported by strong commentary and a clear understanding of movements
  • Assist in the production of board reports where applicable
