Pall-Ex, the UK’s leading palletised freight network, has established the first ever pallet network in Eastern Europe.
Pall-Ex Romania, will enable the Eastern European region to benefit from the unique hub and spoke network concept that has revolutionised pallet distribution in the UK and Western Europe.
This proven concept for the distribution of goods involves a network of independent local companies and Pall-Ex members, which will exchange each other’s cargo pallets from all over the county via a central hub.
Pall-Ex Romania will operate from its hub in Sibiu, which is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2011.
The Pall-Ex network also operates in the UK, Italy and the Iberian Penninsula. As in those countries, the national distribution costs for Romanian manufacturers, importers and distributors will be considerably lower, as their goods won’t require dedicated transport for each area.
Pall-Ex chief executive Hilary Devey is confident that the Romanian partnership will revolutionise the logistics industry throughout the Eastern European region, she comments:
“Our new partnership represents a landmark phase in our ambition to expand our network across Eastern Europe.
“Pall-Ex was established in 1996 to deliver small consignments of palletised freight cost-effectively throughout the UK, and today we are the UK’s leading operator with over 100 member depot sites across the country.
“Our objective has been to roll out our established model across mainland Europe, of which Pall-Ex Romania is the latest phase. We have already successfully launched two other domestic distribution networks, Pall-Ex Italia in 2009 and Pall-Ex Iberia in 2011, and we plan further expansions in Germany, France, Benelux, Turkey and Poland with the intention of connecting a Pan-European palletised freight network for small consignments.”
