Corporate Social Responsibility

Hilary Devey, Pall-Ex Group’s multi award winning founder, owner and CEO, has always believed passionately in Corporate Social Responsibility. Protecting the environment, supporting worthy causes and helping with local community projects are at the heart of Pall-Ex Group’s values.

Hilary dedicates much of her time to charitable causes in helping to raise funds. For many years, Pall-Ex Group has operated a “Penny-a-Pallet” scheme that resulted in regular, reliable funding to Transaid, which provides transport solutions for developing countries.

Hilary spends much of her time working as a trustee and patron for a number of charities, in particular for The Princess Royal Trust for Carers. The Penny-a-Pallet scheme now helps the trust to fund its 144 independently-managed Carers’ Centres, 89 young carers’ services and interactive websites www.carers.org and www.youngcarers.net.

This unique network caters for a total of more than 424,000 carers, including more than 28,500 young carers with an average age of just 12 throughout the UK. The trust and The Network of Carers’ Centres work together so that carers’ voices are heard by regional and national decision making bodies.

Support offered by the trust consists of support groups at centres, respite day care clubs, training in cookery, managing finances, home visits and funding for essential items such as washing machines. Pall-Ex Group staff and network members support Hilary’s chosen charitable causes, by holding fund raising events and offering practical support, such as befriending carers.

Hilary also devotes much of her time supporting The Stroke Association. Every year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. Of all people who suffer from a stroke, about a third are likely to die within the first 10 days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation.

A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK. The Stroke Association is the only UK wide charity solely concerned with combating stroke in people of all ages.

The Stroke Association funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation, and helps stroke patients and their families directly through its Life After Stroke Services. These include Information, Advice and Support, Communication Support and Life After Stroke grants.

Hilary Devey commented; “I know that I was just one in over 150,000 people who suffered a stroke last year. But I have been very fortunate with the support that my friends, family and The Stroke Association have given me which led to my successful recovery and now I would like to ensure as many people get the treatment and support that they need to be able to lead as normal a life as possible following their stroke.”

Local good causes benefit from Hilary’s generosity

Hilary continues to offer her help and support to many other worthy causes. She was determined that Pall-Ex Group, as a major local employer, should also be seen as supporting local people. So much so, that she donates substantial sums to schools and other organisations in the vicinity of the Pall-Ex hub. These donations have helped to fund projects such as refurbishments, libraries and health and safety requirements.
